Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy
Dr Combs offers Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy in connection with Derive, PA located in the Dilworth neighborhood of Charlotte. She has trained with and is a facilitator for Living Medicine Institute. A student for life, she is currently enrolled in the inaugural facilitator class of Elemental Psychedelics in Colorado.
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is useful for individuals finding themselves stuck or at an impasse in their current treatments for depression, anxiety, OCD, or symptoms of PTSD. Potential clients for KAP must have a referral from their ongoing therapist, psychiatrist, or general physician. KAP is provided as a boost to current therapy and/or medical treatment. It is not a long-term treatment. A minimum of 3 infusion sessions is recommended. Dr. Combs sits with you during the 40-minute infusion at Derive. Along with the infusions, clients will have a period of assessment as well as sessions integrating the infusion experience. KAP allows clients to strategically “grow the good”, making the most of the neuroplasticity ketamine provides.
Ketamine allows neural pathways to reorganize, recalibrating the well-worn neural patterns of depressive, anxious, and/or trauma-based thoughts and reactions. Additional information about the physical mechanisms of ketamine itself will be provided during your assessment with medical staff at Derive. The most up to date research articles regarding the science of ketamine’s effectiveness may be accessed at https://derivehealth.com/in-the-news/category/science/ .
The ideal number number of KAP sessions will be determined collaboratively by medical staff at Derive, Dr. Combs, and ongoing treatment providers. Whether to remain in individual therapy while participating in KAP will also be determined in collaboration with current providers. Derive provides a team of medical staff with broad and significant experience working with ketamine in both hospital and clinic settings. Intravenous administration is utilized as this allows for the greatest control and nuance of administration while also minimizing risk of tolerance and/or addiction.
